Results of the X Moscow International Film Festival "Budem Zhit" (Let's Live)
On September 3, the closing ceremony of the X Moscow International Film Festival "Budem Zhit" (Let's Live)took place in the White Hall of the Central House of Cinematographers.

8 full-length feature films, 17 short feature films, 9 documentaries from 8 countries were selected for the competition program.

At the closing ceremony, prizes were awarded for the Best Feature Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Short Film, as well as prizes in special categories.


"The Blockade Diary" by Andrey Zaitsev was awarded the Grand Prix of the festival by the jury chaired by Evgeny Gerasimov, President of the film festival, People's Artist of Russia. The film tells about the first, the most difficult winter of the siege of Leningrad, in which most people died of hunger. February 1942, severe frosts at minus 30 degrees, terrible hunger, water and electricity supply do not work, no transport, Leningrad is covered with snow and paralyzed. A young woman, Olga, is walking across the city to her father. She has just buried her husband and is sure that soon she will also die of hunger. She wants to see her dad for the last time, say goodbye to him and ask him for forgiveness. This film is a blockade Odyssey, where the viewer together with the heroine passes through the whole city, meets a variety of people, gets into difficult situations and sees the state of Leningrad and its inhabitants.


The short film jury headed by producer Yulia Mishkinene named "Avako" directed by Ksenia Pchelintseva as the best short film of the festival. The film tells a story of Anya, 13.

The teenage girl remains under the supervision of her neighbor, Arseny (18) a punk, with whom she has been in love for a long time. Anya spends a day with Arseny's friends, trying to attract his attention and still not suspecting that they may never see each other again. The film crew received 100 thousand rubles from the National Fund for the Support of Copyright Holders, a partner of the festival.

"Long Shot", a film by Vladimir Golovnev was named the best documentary film by the documentary film jury headed by director Leonid Kruglov. Since 2015, modern 3D cinemas have been opening in small towns and villages of Russia. These are several stories from different regions of the country about how arrival of the cinema saves the inhabitants of the outback from loneliness, abandonment, alcoholism, isolation... Live observation of how cinema changes life, and life turns into a movie.

According to tradition, the winners received personalized statuettes from the President of the film festival, People's Artist of Russia Evgeny Gerasimov.

The military short drama "Sashka. Diary of a soldier", based on the story "Sashka" by Vyacheslav Kondratiev, a war veteran writer.


The film became the directorial debut of Kirill Zaitsev, a popular actor, winner of the "Zolotoy Oryol" (Golden Eagle) Award ("Going vertical"(Three seconds), "Silver Skates", "The Last Hero: the Root of Evil"). The film tells the story of Alexander Kapustin, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Having got to the front as a soldier, Sashka began to keep a diary and now, many years later, the pages of the diary return him to the heat of the battles of the terrible winter of 1942, where, among the explosions of bombs, blood and corpses, he pursues a German, a boy like himself, and takes him prisoner. The frightened German is waiting for death, but Sashka gives him his word that the Russians do not shoot prisoners. At the headquarters of the regiment, the battalion commander orders to shoot the captured fascist. Sashka, the soldier is faced with a choice.

One of the key events of the business program of the film festival was the Moscow pitching of debutants with a prize fund of 1 million rubles. Out of 109 applications submitted for pitching, 12 projects were selected for participation in the defense in two categories: "The Image of Moscow" (full-length and short films) and "Military-Historical cinema" (full-length and short films).
